All you can eat Durian, How do you control eating?

For those of you that have not experienced the taste and culture of durian please replace "Durian" with your very own favorite food. Durian is my favorite food and I am very lucky that it is also Raw, Fresh, Organic, Plant based, and Extremly Healthy with abundant of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, protein, etc.... Even with all the benefits of Durian it can be Negative if one Overeats. Overeating causes many negative factors: Fat, lethargy, bloatedness, gas, potential constipation or Diarhea, depression, boredom, regret, etc....
After 4days of experimenting with 'all I can eat of the BEST durian ever', I have found my Balance....horrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy......I wake up and go move my body in nature: either walking, running, cycling, yoga, swimming....I only drink water and coconut water for 2-3 hours from walking up, then I FEAST on durian after I am hungry.......4-6 hours later, I feast again on Durian....then go to bed close to sunset.......I have noticed that I have increased my endurance and strength due to training harder, lots of hills here. This more intense rigorous training may be due to the nutrients of my organic durian and/or because I must train more to burn off the durian in order to eat more sooner, hehehhehhe. The owner of this BaoSheng Durian Farm, Chang, said he wants to ride with me....apparently his mountain bike is getting dusty.

We had a large group arrive at the durian farm called "Asian Explorers"....Everybody feasted 0n durian together and discussed their favorites....very bonding. It is great to witness the whole operation of this durian farm first hand. It seems very simple....the durian drops from the trees about 25 fruits per tree at peak season, the durian farm worker collects the durian 4 times per day in a huge basket hooked to his motorbike, and we all wait for him to come up to the farm house with the freshest durian, This farm has about 10 varieties.....RED PRAWN is now my top favorite and it is the most expensive, IT is very fiberless and creamy, sweet with slight bitterness and as you eat it you may experience several different flavors and sensations........He sells each Red Prawn for 35 Ringit ($11 US)(2kilo).
Next week I plan to pay double the normal all you can eat daily price of 80 ringit ($24), to stay here and eat all i care for of only the RED PRAWN.....he has two OLD red prawn trees that will start dropping the most fruits ON JULY 4th-JULY 8th!!!
Since the Aisa Explorer group visited the farm, there have been several groups that come to eat durian, so I am able to share my vegan live food Lifestyle with them as they are all very curious about a Whiteboy westerner staying at a durian farm in Malaysia.....I get to explain Veganism several times per day, How I am cycling through Malaysia, and how I aspire to live a lifestyle of minimalism and continued progression in Environmental consciousness and awareness. This is sooooo amazing how I can share and contribute what i feel is very important all while staying out in nature on a durian farm next to a fresh waterfall.

Here is an interesting question.......If you are truly an animal lover than ask yourself this question, "Why do I eat Animals?"......"Are humans really Better than animals"? (that seems rather arrogant to me now, but I used to think this was true, when I was allowing old beliefs and negative society influences to dictate my life more.) I am no Saint now, and I have sooo much room for improvement in patience, compassion, understanding and acceptance that is for sure, but I don't Eat Animals thankfully.....Animals will get their revenge on those who eat them, maybe this helps people to stop eating them.....Some people stop doing wrong things for fear of going to Hell......Some poeople stop doing wrong things because they are wrong.
Go Vegan for 21 days and see how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.

with much friendship and love to my wonderful readers,
Darrick

Back to Penang, Malaysia Now....Durian Farm

The Bus dropped me on the freeway about 30minute bike ride to the ferry for Penang Island (king capital of durian in Malaysia)....after the beautiful 20minute ferry ride I cycled around the main city of Penang Island, Georgetown. I found the durian sellers within 10minutes and sat down at there tables as the durianmaster served me 4 varieties of Malaysian Durian....I feasted for 83malaysian Ringit ($25US!!!), overpaid out of desperation.....I then found a guesthouse for $10/night and slept 12hours, woke early and began my adventure to the Durian farm.
The farm is near about 12KM before Balik Pilao....passing through Ferringe Beach, about 30km from Georgetown, including a nice steep hill.....I was cycling through massive durian trees and rambutan trees and Jackfruit trees and starfruit trees, and mangosteen trees and found myself Singing for the first time in my life...I was singing out of gratitude and how lucky I am at this stage of my adventurous healthy life, out in the middle of the quiet country, cycling, feeling the sunshine and the fresh air blow, free as a bird.....my song realease may happen soon..the best hit name is "I am cycling through the durian trees of........... Malaysia!" ...."I am cycling through the durian trees of Malaysia!"
Found the Farm and met Chang the owner, a very nice family man (family of 4kids(8,14,16,18yrs) and his wife, all durian lovers)....The durian is DROPPING Daily now...the season is 3months here....I am staying in a tent for 80Ringit per day ($25US) including all the durian I can eat every day)....I got to eat durian with the owner all alone on his farm home Deck that overlooks over 100 durian trees and the Ocean is very visible about 10Km away! nice and cool and fresh up there with a gentle breeze....CHANG answered about a hundred questions from me and I learned alot....BOTTOM LINE: Older the tree the better the taste, and If i want to experience the ULTIMATE taste and even a slight numbness to the lips and tongue, then eat the durians within 30minutes of the time the durian drops from the 60year old+ durian tree.....my favorite variety so far is D600, bitter sweet......the best I have ever tasted in my life.
I walked all around his Orchard alone and hear durians drop occasionally, I spotted one that was dropping through the branches of the 70ft tall tree and went over and opened it up and tasted it, fabulous......great to eat durian in nature under the durian trees and hear all the birds and jungle sounds.
Almost every day the Farm has a group of 40visiters that LOVE durian and they all feast together...I got to meet some today from Korea...Most all are advanced durian conneseirs, so it is great to have this in common.
200meters away is a waterfall with a pool of water to get wet in...fresh cool water and lots of rocks to walk around or lay naked on to dry out and look up at the beautiful green trees and natural surroundings.
100meters away is a fruit stand that has fesh Coconut waters for 30cents.
I plan to eat only durian, drink coconut waters and fresh pressed sugar cane juice occasionally too.
Today I walked to the bottom of his orchard and RAN up which takes about 10minutes of Intense rigerous excercise (HR at 170 all the way) to reach his home from the bottom....great way to earn the durian breakfast.

caught in Tropical storm

That was invigorating....I was surfing here in Kata Beach, Thailand, and all of a sudden the dark clouds moved in, it started raining, then Pouring rain, then wind blowing very strong.....several surfers got out of the water, but I was feeling cold and it was warmer in the water, so I decided to swim to increase my body heat.....I could barely see due to the clouds, rain, wind, mist....the rain actually hurt my skin it was coming down so hard....I waited it out for 20 minutes, then it all started to go away and only me and one other surfer were in the water....all the waves to ourselves!

Shared durian with the family that operates my homestay....family of 4....the two boys are about 8 and 12 years of age and the 8year old loves durian. I had eaten two durians in my room already and had one more to share. I sat with them and watched the father cut it for his boys and they all enjoyed it...That was very nice for me to find some people that accept my fruit gifts....
In Thailand, it seems people have such an abundance of fruit and/or have more money then other countries, that they don't usually get that excited about getting a gift of fruit....IN Bali, since it seemed to be a poorer country, the people are soooo excited when you give them fruit, especially Durian....I could also be more creative in who I share fruit with..for example If I share with the hard working laborers I see that are building all the buildings around here for the tourists to buy condos, then they would probably love some juicy free fruit in the hot Thai Sun.....I will share some with them asap too.

Vagabonding Is not responsible! Do something

So what the vagabond traveler actually represents is a higher kind of responsibility – one who is more in touch with reality and the true nature of the Universe; although the typical mind will always label her as “out-of-touch,” “impractical,” and a “denier of reality.” This mis-labeling and the anger that comes with it arise because the deepest Self, beneath all those layers of conventional Mind, resonates with the truth exposed and illustrated by the liberated vagabond, the free-spirited wandering ascetic. And for one strongly identified with the egoic mind and thus caught up in conventional notions of success, that resonance is frightening.

THE THAI COCONUT WATER is the sweetest and best tasting I have experienced, much better than Bali, Indonesia....I drink about 2 or 3 daily in between meals.

Mango VRS Cheeseburger Calories

"Nam Dok Mai" Mangos-- Oval with a sharp-pointed tip
ripe fruit are golden-yellow with deep yellow flesh the taste is sweet and slightly
sour and scented.

My lunch today was 8lbs of delicious, juice running down my elbows, Thai "Nam Dok Mai" Mangos (the best here I feel, and more expensive too).....I went to the fruit market on my bicycle and purchased my mangos (75cents per pound). Left with my mangos in my Hemp bag to avoid the use of plastic, and headed to a nice spot on the beach. It is amazing how many looks one gets eating a large amount of fruit. In the past, as an animal eater, I never got any second looks eating a cheeseburger meal.
I decided to compare the calories of a cheeseburger meal and a mango meal.

Cheeseburger
Calories
704
Total Fat=43.7g

French fries

500 calories
total fat=30
Cola
200 calories

Total cheeseburger meal=
1,400 calories
73.7 grams of fat

Mangos
calories
100 per mango
1/2 gram of fat per mango

I had 11 mangos today for lunch=
1,100 calories
5.5 grams of fat

CONCLUSION: The two meals have Similar calories, but Society is not used to us eating an abundance of something as natural as Fruits or Vegetables......How did we get so far away from fruits and vegetables in our society?

Harley's Bicycle Trailer full of Durian

my Consciousness told me to SELL Whole foods stock

During my Thai massage today, I was thinking in between being present to the wonderful massage moment (I need lots of improvement on being Present for all the moments, for sure)....I decided that owning shares in a company like Whole foods wasn't congruent for this Vegan....Whole foods does do so many amazing things, for example introducing vegetarianism to many Animal eaters...thats powerful! I do like the company and will buy fruit there on occasion. I just decided to not be an investor in Whole Foods since they do contribute to the endless suffering of innocent animals and slaughtering of them so people can satisfy their desire to taste dead innocent animal flesh (which is Obviously not needed for humans to survive or thrive.
This was a huge financial Loss for me, as Whole foods stock was down 40% since I purchased it, but the feeling I have going to bed at night will be soooo fabulous!!
Another step in the best direction for me I feel....baby steps...enjoying and embracing the journey of each new bit of consciousness I become aware of!

Namaste,
Darrick

Eating 2meals per day feels great!

An early surf experience today of 6:30am (have been going to bed late and sleeping in too much). I much prefer to wind down with the sundown and rise with the sun, I plan to improve this now...The key for me will be to eat my evening meal earlier, so I have digestion time and can get to bed earlier...
I am typically eating 2meals per day and love the feeling and simplicity of this....Today I had about 15 juicy Thai mangos for my first meal between 10-11am. Since then I have slept 2hours, got a thai massage on the beach, used internet for one hour, read my Henry Thoreau book for one hour, drank one coconut water and a slice of pinnaple for a snack......I plan to eat 10lbs of durian for my second meal, as my hunger is approaching.

My new Fruit eating Friend, Brian took his return flight back to Santa Monica today....we enjoyed great times together: fruit meals, excercise, surfing, runs, bikes, walks, chats on the beach, etc.....
Have fun back in CA Brian, enjoy all the melons and berries for me.

Oprah Winfrey tries Vegan, she says this.....

i AM SO proud of Oprah Winfrey for being such a leader and experimenting with a plant based diet!!! she is wonderful for this!!
check out her words...
OPRAHA'S WORDS FROM HER BLOG.......
Week One: Sunday
There was a passage in Kathy Freston's book that so related to me, I thought for a moment she was talking about me.

In the passage, Kathy talks about an overweight friend who would gain and lose. She didn't conquer the weight issue until she became a "conscious" eater.

Conscious eater. That struck a nerve. I had recently come to the conclusion that after spending weeks reading and rereading A New Earth and being on line with Eckhart Tolle that bringing a higher level of awareness to my eating was the solution I'd been avoiding. My idea of a conscious eater, however, was not quite the same as Kathy's.

I thought it meant not allowing yourself to eat emotionally and filling the void of anxiety with food, as I've struggled with for years. I thought it meant taking your time, making healthy choices and chewing slowly—being conscious of every bite and not scarfing down a meal and then thinking about the next one.

That is one level of consciousness. But what she talks about in her book is a higher level. She speaks of "spiritual integrity." How can you say you're trying to spiritually evolve, without even a thought about what happens to the animals whose lives are sacrificed in the name of gluttony?

So this 21-day cleanse gives me a chance to think about it differently and see what my attachments are to certain kinds of foods—and what I'm willing to do to change.

Don't know if I'm going to feel better or worse, but I'm willing to try to see if my body at least feels differently.

So this first day wasn't hard at all. For breakfast, I had steel-cut oatmeal with fresh blueberries, strawberries, chopped walnuts and a splash of soy milk and some agave nectar. For lunch, chunky mushroom soup with wild rice and pecans. As a snack, a handful of roasted almonds. And for dinner, a baked potato drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper with a salad of shredded lettuce, cranberries, pine nuts and tiny orange slices with a vinegar and oil dressing.

Very satisfying. Day 1 also started with the meditation mantra that Kathy suggests in her book. I'm ready!

OPRAHS WORDS FROM HER BLOG.....

Week Three: Tuesday
We're on our own…no Tal this week. Today, I'm ordering out from a vegan restaurant here and bringing some things from home, like gluten-free waffles for breakfast. I sure will be happy to return to gluten. The Morningstar veggie sausages are a keeper—nice flavor and no pig had to sacrifice its life.

Feeling great. Lots of energy, and the season's almost over, so I can get some much-needed rest.

simple living: my small backpack contains:

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.
Henry David Thoreau

Harley and I slept on tile floors for several days. I had only one blanket between the floor and my body, Harley had only a sheet.....The first couple of days were challenging, but then my body adapted and I slept especially outstanding on my last night there...absolutely Zero furniture in the unit.
It is fun to find ways to live more simply for me....It seems to leave less of a footprint on this earth....my current diet requires no cooking and is producing only compostable scraps (all fruit), no packagings, paper, plastic, etc...

I have reduced my positions to a small backpack:
1 longsleeve breathable sunprotection shirt
1 short sleeve shirt ('friend not food' shirt)
2shorts, one pair of flipflops, one night light (headlamp)
tootbrush
dental floss
one book (Walden, by Henry Thoreau)
one journal
nailclippers
one pen
one hat (my "friend not food" hat)
passport
moneybelt and $$$$
surfing rashguard
surfing booties
cycling shoes
bicycle (I am traveling with my bike, If I am on the bus, I put it with the luggage)

for those interested in simplifying their lives a littel, here is a starting list...
http://zenhabits.net/2007/09/simple-living-manifesto-72-ideas-to-simplify-your-life/

As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.

Kata Beach, Phuket Thailand..surf

Surfin Thailand daily now....Brian is here for a few days...Brian lives in Santa Monica, CA...He lives a very healthy lifestyle of a diet of fruits and veggies, excercise, and nature....He loves durian like me...Last night we had to head to Patong beach for durian since Kata Beach was dry...The durian season is tapering here, so one must be more creative and resourceful to find it, and that can be an adventure in itself. I rented a 7'10" Fun board for this mornings 2foot waves....I am suprised how much energy surfing actually takes....after not surfing for one month, I really can notice the different muscles and conditioning surfing requires. The water is very clear and about 80degrees, the sand is very white, the view of the tree covered hills virtually dropping into the ocean is spectacular, the tourists are present in this area of Thailand...mainly Europeans..I did meet one teach from USA surfing today..He teaches Band to middleschoolers in Singapore and makes approximately double the USA teachers salary and lives with less expenses...Apperently, Singapore and Bangkok have a very HIGH demand for teachers of western countries....need to have 3years of teaching experience before applying. A large population of Expatriots are living in Singapore now...very easy lifestyle to transition to from Western cultures (too organized for my tastes...I prefer some 3rd world chaos in the mix)..
Brian and I had a nice lunch under a tree by the outdoor fruit market today...I had Lemonlime Mangos and bananas...Brian had Rambutans and bananas....(the bananas were realy thin and about 4inches, very sweet variety.
We gave a Thai man some bananas and he seemed pleased...I have found that people turn down gifts of fruit here in Thailand, but in Bali everyone was soooo excited to receive free fruit from me, especially Durian..I believe Bali is much more poor.

nice quotes.....

“I have no doubt that it is a part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals, as surely as the savage tribes have left off eating each other.” ~Excerpt from Walden by Henry David Thoreau

Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.
Eddie Cantor (1892 - 1964)

“I do not see any reason why animals should be slaughtered to serve as human diet when there are so many substitutes. After all, man can live without meat.” ~ Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama

“Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.” ~Albert Einstein

Cycling with Serious Cyclists

Amazing experience I had riding with a group of about 50 Thai Cyclists in the Countrysides of Chanthiburi...the feeling of drafting at highspeeds, changing positions with other cyclists, leading, following, hearing the wind in my ears, Hearing the 'Zing' of the wheels spinning fast, the quietness amongst the group, the feeling of connectedness within the group, noticing how the Thai people interact within a competive sport, the competetive spirit surfacing very strongly at times, seeing so many new sites of nature and Thai village people along the way, the cardio fitness improving, the heartbeating rapidly, the breaths of fresh air on the open road, the constant appreciation and gratitude of the love of nature and being fit and healthy......A New experience for me having been a more loner sports type person with Surfing, running, strength training, yoga. I am soo lucky to have been introduced to a new fascination in my life by Harley Johnstone...Thanks H!
The group separated 3/4 of the way through the ride, I remained conservative and stayed with the second pack of cyclists, Harley lead the first pack until the finish. At the finish, I still had energy reserves and I learned that I must push harder next time and strive to hang with the first pack, thats the best way to get faster and more fit..keep striving for improvement, never settle...just like in life!
