introducing Davao Marang and durian

so happy to be vegan today......

I was riding on a ferry boat today. Many people, baggages, animals on board. When I say animals, i mean chickens, goats, and pigs. These beautiful creatures are roped up and place on the sunny hot boat deck.

Have you ever had your hand or foot fall asleep? That is not a good feeling...Or have you wrapped your wrist or ankle too tight with an ace bandage, causing the blood to stop flowing?
One little adorable piglet had a bright red foot, swollen up a bit. This was due to the rope being tied too tight around its little ankle causing blood circulation to stop.

I showed the boatmen who were all sitting around the animals on the boat deck. I removed my pocket knife and handed it to the main boat man showing him he could cut the rope around the innocent piglets ankle to provide some relief.

The boat men were all laughing and acting as it is no big deal. They didn't do anything. They did however feel my disapproval towards the neglect of the adorable innocent piglet. I was not upset with the men whatsoever.

I completely understand the disconnection in our societies, as I was directly part of this. I understand how most of my family and friends can continue to happily eat their grilled chicken breast or lean ham sandwich. I get angry at first, but then calm down and have patience and compassion.

I just watched the piglet lay there, moving occasionally in discomfort. I took the moment to be sooo grateful that I can see the connection between whats on my daily meal plate and the process it takes to get it there.

When I am a Better man, I will have the courage to intervene into someone else's culture and property. I will take personal responsiblity to cut the rope around the darling piglet and provide relief. If I cant save all the animals, I can at least make one animal feel better for his remaining hours on death row.

MOther Theresa had a quote that went something like this...
"IF you cant feed one hundred people, feed just one.".

Wow, some wisdom i want to practice......

the practice of low speech and minimum sound. Talk low, talk little, talk in whispers, sweet and true. Examine each act of yours and see that you execute it with minimum noise. Do not shout to a person standing far; go near him or beckon to him to approach you. Loud noise is sacrilege on the sky, just as there are sacrilegious uses of earth and of water.

Spent 5 nights out on Dayong Beach, Telukud island. Pristine paradise awaits just 20minutes by speed boat or 1hour by ferry boat ($1). To have such an untouched feeling so close to a Major citie is quite interesting and fascinating. Many people may think they have to travel long overnight boat rides to achieve such a feeling. The white sand, coconut trees, grass, flowers, plants, fruit trees(mango season JULY), papaya, bananas...and I am planting more..... the water is crystal clear and warm....tropical fish and coral reefs...nice quiet place with tourists from Davao coming for afternoons mainly ( I think this is great to see people come here and I can meet them and connect with all sorts if i choose: students or professionals or sales clerks or families)....The mornings and evenings are more about solitude. The owners are wonderful....The man of the daughter is 95years old and he is teaching me his 10secrets to longetivity...he is adorable..and smiles lots...BEn is his name....3small meals only perday, mostly vegetarian, I hope to help him eat more fruits with me...he loved durian.

Today back in the city action living on the hotel beach front on poluted beach... and lving the big markets and people and hustle and bustle and internet Wifi hotspots for my new laptop...and the wonderful massages...i got a nice 2hour massage yesterday for 10bucks US. Just ate 2 Marangs in a side alley carendria in the Bankerohan market while hundreds of passerbys stare me down and smile and hopefully notice that fruit is a better choice to death.

Feeling great with the contrast of city/beach life To full island style paradise life....maybe one week on paradise and 3 days in city/beach.

My durian contact deliverd me durian out to the island too!! I text him my order and the next day it arrives by ferry boat...very fun waiting as teh boat is coming towards me..teaching me patience and renoucment should it not arrive.

philippino children

jogging on beach today i get soooo many looks and stares and comments from kids. This happens pretty much everywhere around philippines. its constant. they love to see a westerner. they are laughing and smiling and giggling with their friends and pointing and staring and saying, "hey Joe", "hey Joe" (this is a residual from war and gijoe, so they call all westerners joe).

Anyways....why would this wonderful, kind, innocent behavior conjure up irritation ever? They are reacting as any of us would in their innocent situation. Maybe its the fact that I have been feeling like a celebrity for about 3years now of traveling, and i crave to be ignored at times. Or maybe Im upset with myself for being out of balance of some sort that particular day.
Whatever the reason for any irritation i have, its not acceptable for me... I plan to continue to practice love and compassion and understanding and become a master of this.

any other 'vagabonders' have this experience?

Excuses For Not Eating Raw Food - Dr. Doug Graham

Davao city, philippines gets even better

After traveling around Philippines some; Siargao, Cebu, Ilo-Ilo, Guimaras, Manila, Boracay...

Im settling into a place in Davao City called "Times Beach". Found a nice beachfront motel for $6/night, on floor level(with hbo and cable and fan and nice family owned and operated, CMPLN Inn and resort)
.
I feel like hangin here for a month or so....we'll see how it goes.....I am soo in love with quality Davao Durian and I need to be near it and get tucked into it daily from my main sources of certainty.

Positives:
-Huge beach, nice sand, long stretches to jog, do stretches, yoga, dance, whatever you want.
--amazing little Philippino culture emmersion daily...meeting and connecting daily whether you choose to or not, be ready.
-ocean water swims
-sweet little beach community with local kids everywhere.
-3minute walk to abundance of bananas, watermelons, papayas, mangos, pineapples sold at all the little homefront shops.
-Durian seller 3minute walk from my room
-internet cafe 3minute walk 20cents/hour
-barbershop with massage option 3minute walk
-kareoke bar and nightly live music on the beach 3mnute walk
-15minute walk to SM (the hugest shopping Mall in town with a massive variety of fruits: Marang, mango, manogsteens, chicos, melons, pawpaws, avocados, tomatos, cucumbers, etc...., seasonal and imports, movies, bookstores, internet cafe, and single girls if you are looking.)
-free delivery from my main durian dealer "JO-JO", he brought me a box of 'native' and arancilo' last night, I ate half and refrigerated the rest and it was even more bitter today, nice and cool too).
-$1.50 taxi ride to two huge traditional markets, spas, immigration(for visa extension), durian restaurants, fruit sellers, etc...
-$1-2 taxi ride to several homeless shelters for fruit deliveries when you feel like giving
--45minute ferry boat ride to a fairly deserted pristine island with amazing coral garden and fish "Telukud" island.
--15cents jeepnee ride from Magsaysay durian park
I can casually walk to Magsaysay durian park on low tide on the beach most of the way there in 90minutes
--Davao is known across the country for the cheapest Best Fruits and durian...and I know why now.

Negatives:
-no surfing waves
--still close to a big city, so you do feel the lower air quality when you leave the beach area
--no snorkling at my beach
--motel room is concrete
--no fruitarian friends to share this amazing gift of a place

mango eating contest

Im in Guimaras, Philippines. this island is known for the sweetest mangos in the world. Ive been wanting to experience mango abundance, so I came here. I found the mango sellers in San MIguel province...$1/kilo. I ate 2 kilo....they are amazing. they peel very easily, the texture is dark orange, they have very little strings, the seed is flat, they taste sweet like 'namdadk my' thai mangos, but a little deeper flavor.

The mango eating contest was won by a philippino man who at 12kilos in a one hour period! that is over 60mangos! HIs prize was a box of mangos. Many other contestants ate over 7kilos in the one hour period. I doubt many of us fruitarians could accomplish this...i dont want to anyways.

They had "All you can Eat" Buffet of mangos for $1 through out the mango festival.

I wasnt here for this festival, but this is the news I learned from the participants.

Next year, April, 2011 mango festival again in Guimaras.

The last 3 nights I have slept under the stars on the beach on an island off of Guimaras island...I went to the resort called Barras resort and asked if I could sleep outside instead. I saved money and had a great time in the quiet, dark, star lighten skys.

I've been itching for some 'uncertainty' after 3 days of purity. lately Ive been enjoying the journey of continued travel. I feasted on mangos for 3 days straight, mostly MONO (approx 4kilos/day).....now I am wanting durian....i am suprised to discover that mangos held my attention so short a period.....i am a true durian lover....I'll try to be more faithful now.

Heading to Manila to volunteer for www.petaasiapacific.com .......hoping to meet lots of wonderful vegans in Philippines....

eating durian inside Airport....

Loads of durian stands on the roadsides as I was Heading back to Davao airport. I was catching my flight to Siargao Island for some surfing. I brought a couple durians to the airport. The entrance of the airport has a huge durian statue, so I felt like this may be a place that embraces durian. The first security guard at the front entrance was smiling and took little notice in my durians.

Now I am inside the Davao City airport which is enclosed and airconditioned. The checkin counter told me I cant bring my durian on the plane. I said OK, and continued through the first xray screen and security. They made me put the durian through the xrays.

Now I am at the area of cafes and shops before the final xray and gate entrances. This is were I sat down at a table and opened my strong smelling durian. People did look more than usual at me with smiles. NO issues whatsoever!!

The durians I had brought were from My favorite durian Stall in Magsaysay Park...the sellers name is Jeffry, nickname JO-JO, He is about 30 years old and has a belly, and is the most honest durian expert around! give him business, tell him DD sent you.

I also got another massage at the airport for $2!!! The best I have ever had in my life. From a blind man named "RICKY". Top floor of airport. sitting in the massage chair style. 30minutes of pressure points and relaxation.....after wards I had a chat with this Expert......I played a game, asking him to guess my age. Told him I would give him double if he guessed it.....he was close enough.

Philippines continues to impress me with the weather, the smiling hospitible people, the fruit, the durian, the massages, the cheapness, the beaches, the down to earth feeling in a big city like Davao, the ability to help others so easily and cheaply day in and day out, the adventure, the Girls, the love of life....,etc....

Philippines: Davao Durian report.

The Durians are everywhere. I smelled durian when I came out of the plane at Davao city airport. This may be hard to believe, but so true. The philippina girl i sat with was coming to eat durian too.

The Magsaysay Park area has abundance of durians piled at the stalls. i saw about 5 durian sellers on the way to the magsaysay park from airport. I have seen thousands of durians since i landed 20 hours ago. i have feasted on some of the best in the world here today.....out ranking Malaysian even.
ARANCILO was the best so far in deep complex flavor, in a wet creamy format of bliss.

This is only a Semi season for durian (Msrch, April, May) prices are about 75cents/kilo. The Main season is August, September and October (50cents/kilo)
. Durian is available 365 days a year here in Davo, but the seasons have millions around for cheaper.

I am seeing abundance of other fruits: Marang, Jak, pineapples, mangos, papayays, mangosteens, Pomelo, etc...

The feeling here is so wonderful. I love the geniune Philippino people. The durian culture is full on. people all sitting at tables chowing down, or many walk by and stop and stand up while they devour a durian and go on their way.

a group of 4 girls (ratio of girls to boys here is 4 to 1) sat down with me and we chatted over durian. They are in Davao for a conference for teachers. This is what i tell people i do for a living now....TEACH Nutrition.....now everyone understands what I do, and i can openly share the vegan movement.

The Evergreen hotel is still about $7/night and footsteps away from piles of durian. The staff remembered me...i brought a big PUAT durian for them to immediately tuck into.

Got a haircut and shave today by a local little barber shop....the price is $1...this includes a nice 10minute massage.....i gave him $4, and he was amazed and so appreciative and happy that I am on a major BuZZ for the rest of the day from the experience with such a grateful man and his wonderful service.

If ever you feel down in Philppines, go get a massage or haircut and give a big tip.

random photos, leaving Bali

AFter 2 months in Bali, I am heading to Philippines again.

Bali seems to have more Vegetarian places now.....i saw a few in Denpasar even.

The durian season is showing signs of a slowdown here.
I can still find heaps of durian on the road over the hill through Bedugul to Singaraja.
Not much durian around Denpasar or other roadside stalls closer to beaches.
Always seem to find durian at the Bali Chain called "Moana Fresh", A fruit and smoothie shop. The durians are called bangkok or Kanibali....they taste like Thailands' Monthong, but are grown in Singaraja, Bali (I visited the farms briefly this time).

Mom and Dad are headn back to USA. ...They stayed one month..may fun times...They put a big candle in the middle of my durian on my birthday and sang to me.....
Dad was eating mostly vegetrarian this trip....he likes the vegetable soups they sell around Bali, ask for 'Cap Cay'.

I feel so excited to have a change and some more uncertainty now, and some new durian flavors.
The durian season in Davao City area of PHilippines is ususally very strong Aug, Sept, OCt, Nove.....so I am excited to see what they still have this time.

no durian success two days

Enjoyin Bali still.
Im stayin in Ubud area because my mom and dad and friend came from USA, they love Ubud for the dances and culture and classes. I am loving spending time with my mom and dad and Roz. My dad and I are reading natural hygiene books in the morning sun overlooking big fields of rice.

Yuepi day was March 16 (Balinese new year). A day of silence and quiet and no electricity, no eating, no drinking water, no motorbikes, no cars, no business Only a day of quiet rest with family, and must stay on your property. our accomodation has a pool, so we could hang out there. If every country had one day like this we could probably cure world hunger with the savings! bali even stops all flights!

I tried to fast all day and had every intention of succeeding. My last meal was 7:30PM the day before. So i wanted to eat by 11am but i kept focussed on my fasting success and thought I would succeed. HOwver by 2pm, i was negotiating with myself that I should eat to feel that nice feeling of filling up and get some juicy fruit in me (i had an amazingly ripe papaya in my room dying to be eaten). So 20 hours after the fast began, I broke it with one large luscious papaya! I am wondering what it would take for me to succeed on a one day fast? It seems most others that try can do this. I was around my family who ate their regular SAD diet, so the smells were stimulating, but that is NO excuse for sure.

was hunting for durian yesterday and many stores were closed, it was the day after the new year here in Bali. After 2hours of hunting, driving around with a hired driver polluting the environment, i gave up and went back to spend time with my folks and ate mature coconut to fufill my fat addiction.
tonight is durian success night!!

TOLSTOY
By killing, Tolstoy believed, "man suppresses in himself, unnecessarily, the highest spiritual capacity - that of sympathy and pity towards living creatures like himself - and by violating his own feelings becomes cruel."
"A human can be healthy without killing animals for food. Therefore, if he eats meat he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite."

PAUL and LINDA McCARTNEY
"We stopped eating meat many years ago. During the course of a Sunday lunch, we happened to look out of the kitchen window at our young lambs playing happily in the fields. Glancing down at our plates, we suddenly realised we were eating the leg of an animal who had until recently been playing in a field herself. We looked at each other and said "Wait a minute, we love these sheep - they're such gentle creatures. So why are we eating them?" It was the last time we ever did."

Medewi, Bali---waves

I am staying at a place near Medewi, on the west side of Bali. The village life here feels like a blast from the past (maybe how Kuta beach was 40 years ago) Its paradise for me: surfing, durian, laid back village life with cows and chickens all around the beaches, plenty of delicious ripe fruits (mango, papaya, pineaple, snakefruit, avocado, oranges, watermenlon, green melon, bananas) available at the market and beachfront Warung (Gede's place).

My homestay (KIDING homestay, no sign though) is with a family that has a few rooms attatched to their living arrangements. I get to observe their daily life from my wooden chair out front my room. The children at this home are crawling around in the dirt, sand, or grass under the coconut trees, no need for diapers.Today the home maker was shredding coconut for coconut curry. Yesterday they all shared durian with me. The father is building another two rooms out back and his boys are helping out. The cost is 30,000 rupiahs/night (aprox $3). I am renting a surfboard for 30,000/day ($3/day). The 19year old boy at this home is taking me to the nearby beach breaks for uncrowded delightful surfing, and getting me durian.

I am spending my mornings surfing, then eating fruit on the beach. Mid day reading and resting in hamock on beach Or taking a nap in my bed with my fan on me. Hanging out with the cows (some cows allow you to pet them).
Evenings surfing on a neverending beach break with endless views of coconut trees and rice fields.
The water is about 85degrees! I've never felt warmer water then here.

I am planning on staying around here for a couple weeks.

to get here?:
easiest.....Hire a drive to get here is about 300,000 ($30) rupiah.....
A cheaper way To get here, you can take a bemo, or a bus from Denpasar bus station. Bus to MEDEWI approx $50,000rupiah ($5).

When the bus drops you off on the main road, walk down towards the beach. Look for "Medewi Beach Cottages" (i am not staying here, this is a more upscale and costs 150,000 rupiahs/ night. ITs easy to find...My homestay is appox 100meters before Medewi Beach Cottages, across from the little soccor (football) field. NO sign here, just ask around for "DD", the guy that eats lots of durian.

IF you are thirsty for some fruit smoootihes, head to Gede's Place, near "Medewi Beach Cottages", on the beach front...they have all types of Ripe fruit to buy or to have them make smoothies for you!

Medewi, Bali---waves

I really hope you come visit Medewi! Here is my take on this Jewel of a place..............

2000 calories of bread and starbucks Frap

today after i nice bike ride (rented a bike today for $2),i was hangin out front of The huge Discovery mall that sits on the beach near Kuta. I was drinking a freshly squeezed amazingly sweet Orange Juice that I bought at New Zealand Natural (a commercialized juice bar that does a great job with having ripe fruit).
a few tables away i observed a family of 4 sit down with a big bag of breads and pastries purchased from BreadTalk ( a pastry buffet smorgasbord type place where you grab a tray and a set of Tongs and load up).
The two overweight men polished off 4 big pastries each and one 20ounce Frapiccino with whip cream. They were enjoying this meal very much and i could relate when i used to eat this.
The size and thickness and variety of toppings on each pastry made them approx 400 calories each. the frap is probably 500 calories.

It just goes to show how we do eat alot of food on a 'normal', western death diet, so we must remember to eat plenty of fruit if we are switching to a fruit diet. The equivalance of fruit for that 2000 calorie meal would be approx 20 good sized Bananas! If I sat next to that same family and peeled and ate 20 natural good sized bananas straight from the mother earth I may be the freak that needed help. I doubt i could even have a conversation with them....me with my shirt off, barefeet, sunhat, dark tan, and goatee and wolfing down bananas? nah, not goanna doit.......actually i will, ehehee.D

Bodhisattva in metro

This is a great video to remind us all not to take life to seriously.

Im in Bali now and loving the contrast of Australia! Bali seems to have so much smiling happy energy in the air that is contagious...im smiling more already....maybe thats a novelty, maybe its the Asian love affair i have...maybe its the Durian on the street corners that smell so nice...

I had an amzing fruit called a "Wani"...like a white mango....try blending one of these for a real natural milkshake (no cow pus or drug infested dairy).

picture: Robert showing me upside down world

flew up to Cairns for Akee, durian, and old friends....

spending time on Clint's Farm again (aka Fruitopia).
Im finding Akee everyday on the trees. When its ready to eat, it is opened up and you can see the cheese fruit and the black round seed. That is when I get excited and climb the small tree or jump up to reach it. I love the 'hunt' for good ripe fruit.
The Akee has a flavor of Sharp cheese and some rich nut all in one. It also has an ocasional taste of clams or muscles. It is chewy fruit, with some slight crunchyness. if you chew it up and then spit it in your hand it looks all milky. I havent eaten enough to be full on it as the suppy is not abundant yet. I feel like eating about 10 akee fruits then i feel satisfied, but then i am ready to eat some other fruit 2 hours later.
How do I rate AKEE??? I love it. I rate it on my top 5 fruits. it is a Savory fruit for sure. I love eating it later in the day after I have had plenty of juicier fruits.

Robert and I had some great farm time....we went up the Bump trail and swam alot and devoured durian daily. He picked me up at Cairns airport with 10kilo of durian smelling up the car, we ate it at the airport parking lot.

Judith and Adrian came by Clints. They brought a bunch of Akee that was as ripe as possible almost going over to rancid. This is the best taste I find and texture as it is ultra soft and sharp bitter cheesy taste. The even slightly dehydrated some in a dehydrator to perserve it, and the color changes to cheddar chees color and it becomes ultra rich, bitter, sharp and intense tooo strong for most, but I loved it, ehehehhe...more, more, more...

Judith made me a shreded coconut with sprouted mungbeans and dried mushrooms and Fresh Tomatos ('Oxheart'), and Rocket all mixed together.....WOW!! I got such a great feeling eatin this and the taste was nice....She Said the Harley used to live with them back at the beginning of raw and he was eating lots of this yummy stuff.

Robert brought me 25 kilo of Australian Durian out to Clints farm. We all feasted for breakfast...Me, Mango, Kvieta, Robert, Ian, Michelle.....I love the Au durian, but i do think of Mosang King or monthong as I am eating this durian. I have found the frozen monthong from the Asian market in Cairns is very nice, so I am getting a few of those to eat with my Australian durian too.

Runing from the farm out to the main road to town takes 15minutes...thats the record for Harley to beat!

The peanut butter fruit is very nice too!!

The farm has Keet Mangos now, papaya, jakfruit and plenty of ice cream beans and bananas.

Robert's farm had some Abiu for me to eat....wow! i love that....he had some Mamay sapotes...some MARANG!! jack fruit....yello rambutans very sweet, mangosteens, young coconuts to drink

The Port Douglas market was cool vibe...i did drink the sugar cane juice...i missed the pinapple crush

Bicycling into Mareeba today brings back memories of the retreat when my dad was here too.

The creek is flowing very strong, and I am spending some hours down in other areas, rock jumping, swiming, and laying around naked practicing naturalism.

I think of surfing in Bryon a bit and being with Harley and Freelea and Nick and Jess, and may be back soon....maybe I meet up with you all in Newcastle with CRis?

macadamia nut party

I just had a party with myself. I sat on a unoperating railroad track and cracked 12raw macadamia nuts with a rock. I was sitting back away from pedestrians crossing, but in Eyes view. Very good vibe and feeling. Birds singin and watching me, nice warm breezy evening before sunset, people to watch and to watch me.
I enjoyed each and every mac nut slowly and I mixed them in my mouth with organic medjool wet dates.
Wow! What a combination of pure raw flavors. May not be a 'proper' combination of foods for some people, but it seems good for me.

Byron Bay is soooo laid back in many ways. Sitting on the track nearby town, I would appear to be an insane homeless skitzophrenic in many places. In Bryon, people dont even give ya a second look.

The Bangalow Farmers Market is soooo wonderful, pay it a visit if you are around here on Sunday's (every other sunday, I beleive).

Nick and I had some amazing organic Lychees this afternoon. Santos in Byron Bay on Johnson st. sells many organic fruits and veggies.

I love eating a fruitarian diet...its been over a year now and I havent felt any negative affects, besides occasional cravings for cooked vegan fare.

here are some benefits of fruitarianism, I believe am feeling them all....

ymmy salad

how do I turn this photo around?

anyways...this is a creamy corn/avocado dressing I made a poured overy spiralized zuchinni...wow...fresh lime juice added at the end and some sprinkled sweet corn.

Today was a Byron Bay Farmers Market. I went straight to the Pure Sugar Cane juice...got one litter....enjoyed this rocket fuel......so many people are in line always to buy this sweet sensation.

My friend Freelea brought me 15 packets of Mo Sang King durian from Brisbane today.

My organic mangos are may staples lately.

randomly passing out vegan leaflets feels good to me.

feeling purposeful?

Lately, I havent felt my purpose as much. Been waking at sunset, headn to beach, enjoying the beach most all day by surfin, swiming, walking, jogging, resting, sleeping, reading, and eating many amzing juicy mangos, dragon fruit, and Melons.
So why havent I felt purposeful? Well my current purpose in life is:
"To Continually improve my natural hygenic lifestyle, to contribute, and to share the vegan message daily. "

I thought about it, and I realized I havent been speaking up enough about the Vegan lifestyle. That can be selfish. Why selfish? Because maybe somebody near me has been ready to hear this message, and I didn't deliver it. Nick and I decided to hand out some "Go Vegan" leaflets on the beaches of Byron Bay....This was fun, challenging, and rewarding....I do like focussing on the pretty girls....Its a great way to break the ice. I spent years trying to meet chicks on the beach with some stupid pick up line, losing mostly......., now I can share the vegan message and either way I WIN.

Just ate one packet of my Mo Sang King Durian for desert.
For Dinner, Jess made me some amazing tomato sauce spread over dehydrated Zuchinni slices, topped with sweet corn, bell peppers and it was tangy and tasty. We shared some with Her 3 non vegan roomates, they loved it.

I had one canteloupe for breakfast
3 mangos for lunch
3 mangos and one dragonfruit for tea

walked 15kilometers today and did one hour of ocean water swimming

time to sleeeeep.

enjoyin Byron Bay area in AU..

I am living in Byron for a while camping outside of "Jess and Say's" place with Harley, Free, Nick, Julie, and steven...300m to beatiful beach with white soft sand. This beach is a beach that you can be nude at too!, surfing is a great beach break and uncrowded.
Fruit is closely available: Mangos, watermelon, Cavandish and Ladyfinger Bananas, Rocklons, Orang, Papayas, and Sugar CAne JUice. The Bowen mangos we are finding at the Santos Health food store in Byron are outstanding, as well as many of the surround farmers markets.
Byron Bay central is about one hour casual walk on the beach. Byron Bay is a Very intesting little village/town: you can walk around barefoot and shritless comfortably everywhere! Everyone seems to accept you as you are dressed up or dressed down. Many travelors and Aussies around, MORE girls than boys. Jungle all around the outskirts of the town with beautiful birds and nice sounds, Farmers Markets most days of the week nearby!

I feel very at home here with so may vegan friends and surf and Nature opportunities and Fruit and Markets.

And we can get Maylasian durian from Brisbane at YVENS asian market...I tried the "MOSANG KING", it is amazing quality and I believe organic at 12/kilo.
